Maria Rosa Mirabella
October 7, 1942 - May 27, 2015
Maria Rosa Mirabella (nee Porcelli) passed away on May 27, 2015 at Lakeridge Health Centre in Oshawa following a brief illness. Born on October 7, 1942 in a small village near Bari, Italy, Rosa was the youngest of 7 siblings. Her family moved north to Milano when Rosa was a young woman. Once there, the family opened a grocery store in the city, which still operates in the same location to this day. Rosa worked at the store and was well known to the local community. It was through her storefront presence that she met her husband-to-be, Antonio. The two were married in 1969, and left Italy behind to make a new life in Canada.
Rosa was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a second mother to many others. She was a master home cook, an award-winning gardener, a larger-than-life personality, and a good friend who loved to laugh and share with others.
She is survived by her husband Antonio, her son Giuseppe (Helena), her daughter Lucia Elisabetta (Ron), and her beloved grandchildren Alexander, Nadia, Isabella, Anthony, and Jarlath. She is predeceased by her son, Mauro, who passed away in 1994.
