We sadly announce the passing of Ilse Barbara Grzeskowiak on Monday, May 9th, 2016. Her husband, Hans Werner Grzeskowiak, and her children, Christine (Pat Burns) and Mark (Christina Haley), survive Ilse; her daughter Sabine (Dave Heenan) preceded her in death. She was the beloved Oma of Blake, Michelle, and Rachel (Sabine); Mackenzie (Christine); and Katarina (Mark). She was the sister of Horst (deceased) and Ruth. She will be remembered most of all for her love of her family, and the joy that she found in her grandchildren at family gatherings.

Ilse was born on June 20, 1931 in Hannover, Germany. She and her husband immigrated to Canada in the 1960s. Ilse loved classical music and especially the opera, and she was a season ticket holder at the Canadian Opera Company (COC) for over 30 years. She also loved to travel, and in her latter years visited storied cities like Vienna and Prague with her husband, as well as natural wonders such the Grand Canyon National Park with her grandchildren. Ilse found value and comfort in the arts, and strove to pass on her appreciation of culture to her children and grandchildren.

We would like to express thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Humber River Regional Hospital for their excellent care of Ilse.

The family will be celebrating Ilse’s life with family and friends at a private gathering on Friday May 13th, 2016 at 3303 Don Mills Road, between 3pm and 7pm. Please call when arriving so that we can meet you at the door.
