Derrick Albert James Price
Born on September 26th, 1929 and sadly passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016. He was the loving husband to Kathleen Margaret Mahon, whom he was married to for fifty six years, and the devoted father to their son, Raymond William. His memory lives on in his grandchildren, Tyler Derrick Arsenault Price, Madison Silva Price and his daughter-in-law, Deborah Arsenault Price. He is also survived by his beloved relatives abroad and his many, many friends from his church and community in his adopted Toronto. The love of his life, Kathleen passed away in 2009, but that never diminished the love affair. He missed her every day.
Derrick was a proud sailor in Her Majesty's British Royal Navy, and while on leave he met Kathleen. She was sitting on a wall with her girlfriend, Derrick and his friend rode by on their bicycles. Kathleen waved and Derrick noticed. They were never separated from that moment on, getting married on June 6th, 1953. From there, they would take the great QEI over to Toronto Ontario Canada, each with one bag in hand, and begin their married lives. Born from this love was the apple of their eye, their son - Raymond in January 1960. Ray was beloved and cherished, and he has in turn spent every day of his life as a loving and devoted son. Ray started playing hockey at the age of two and his parents never missed one match or practice, even following him to Russia for a tournament where Ray and his team represented Canada.
Derrick having been born in downtown London would survive WWII as one of England's children that were sent out to the country to live with strangers until the war had ended. He often talked about this time and what a dark moment it was for not only England, but for the entire world. He was a very proud Brit, but also embraced his new home in Canada and would become very involved with the Freemasons, the Canadian Legion and St. Bartholomew Church. Derrick and Kathleen were incredibly giving and spent a great deal of their adult lives in volunteering. As Grandparents they excelled, making every moment with Tyler and Madison exceptional. The look of love was always evident, it shined like a light, and that adoration was mirrored in the eyes of both children. It was pure joy. Derrick's entire career of thirty years was with Levitt-Safety, a job he enjoyed immensely, but moreover the family that owned it, he adored. Derrick was also an avid golfer, loving every minute on every course. Derrick and Kathleen have loved, have been loved and will never be forgotten.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Bartholomew Church on 59 Heather Road, Scarborough, Ontario M1S 2E2 at 10:30am on Thursday, August 11th, 2016.
Derrick's only wish if you would like to make a donation, should be in the memory of his beloved Kathleen Price to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. http://www.cbcf.org/central/GetInvolved/Donate/Pages/default.aspx
