<div itemprop="description">Passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of February 2, 2016 with family at his side. <br /> <br />Beloved husband of the late Ghislaine Ilaqua ( Beaudoin ) and loving father and father-in-law of Caroline Ilaqua and Ron Baldwin and Eric Ilaqua and Joanne Ilaqua. Loving Grandpapa to Saida, Emma, Tyler, Brandon, Alexandria, Krissy and Sam. Dear brother to Giovanna Andreoli and husband John. <br /> <br />Known by family, friends and colleagues as &ldquo;Sam&rdquo;, he touched everyone with his calm friendly demeanor and high integrity. <br /> <br />Born in Montreal in 1936, he overcame many personal challenges at a young age to begin a career in the financial industry at the age of 17 with TD Bank, then working his way through more challenging and executive positions with IAC Limited, Continental Bank of Canada and retiring as Executive VP and CFO of Lloyds Bank Canada in 1986. <br /> <br />In 1988, Sam founded Strategic Information Technology ( SIT ), a software development company catering to the needs of the financial industry, along with partners Rob and Steve Leeming. He was instrumental in the growth of the company and today SIT employs over 170 employees servicing clients in North/South America, the Caribbean and Europe. <br /> <br />Sam&rsquo;s passion was golf and he enjoyed playing regularly at York Downs Golf and Country Club in Markham, Ontario as well as Worthington Golf and Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida. He will be greatly missed by his golfing friends. <br /> <br />The Ilaqua family will be welcoming friends and family for a visitation on Friday February 5, 2016 from 5-9pm as well as on Saturday February 6, 2016 from 9-11am with Funeral services to be held in the Chapel at 11:00am. <br /> <br />Following the entombment the family will welcome guests back at the Highland Funeral Home for a reception with refreshments. <br /> <br />Memorial donations may be made to either Saint Elizabeth Foundation ( www.saintelizabeth.com ) or your charity of choice. <br /></div>
