<div itemprop="description">Mary Elizabeth Nishio, formerly Yamada, (n&eacute;e Suzuki) <br />Passed away peacefully on Friday March 4,, 2016 at age 91 in Toronto, Ontario. Born May 10, 1924 in Vancouver, B.C., the third of four siblings to the late Kinu and Paul Suzuki, Mary was predeceased by World War II Canadian veteran brothers George and Louis. During WW II, like all Japanese Canadians, the Suzukis were interned, separated and relocated . As young teenagers, Mary and Tama were quickly sent east from Kazlo, B.C. by their father to Dundas ON to work as domestics. Mary met and married Peter Fujiyoshi Yamada in 1946 in Hamilton, ON. They had two children, Vicki Shefman, resident of Thornhill, ON and Heather Gene Midori Yamada, recently of Victoria, B.C. In her professional life, Mary worked mainly as a secretary. During her last years she was an executive secretary at Simpson's department store in Toronto. Mary outlived her first husband by over thirty years and married Tom Nishio in 1991. Himself a widower, Mary and Tom have had 25 years together. Their life included much travel and culture in their early years and many happy gatherings with friends and Tom's children, Robynn, Greig and the late Ian Nishio, and their respective families. The family wishes to thank the staff of Carefree Lodge for the terrific care of Mary. Please join Mary's husband Tom Nishio, Vicki Shefman , husband Frank Shefman, grandsons Joshua and Zachary and Heather Gene Midori Yamada and partner Victor Sogen Hori; and in a celebration of life for Mary on Monday May 16, 2016 at Highland Funeral Home &ldquo;Scarborough Chapel&rdquo;, 3280 Sheppard Ave East, Toronto, Ontario. Visitation will take place from 4-5pm, with a service to follow at 5pm, concluding with a reception. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Alzheimers&rsquo; Society or charity of your choice.
