It is with deepest regrets to announce the passing of Doris Erica Browne, on Thursday, March 17th, 2016.

Doris Erica Browne was born on December 26,1927. at The Castle, St. Peter, Barbados. She was the sixth child of Edward and Mary Toppin. She was predeceased by five of her siblings Ercil, Gwendolyn, Hettie, Frank and Alethea ; but is survived by her brother MacDonald.
Erica, as she was familiarly known, was the wife of James Browne, mother of Garfield Browne (her only child), grandmother of Ethan Browne, and mother-in-law of Mary Browne, all of whom are with us today. Erica received the first part of her childhood education at the Boscobel Girls’ School, St. Peter and the latter part at the St. Clements Girls’ School, St. Lucy, after her parents Edward and Mary relocated from the parish of St. Peter to that of St. Lucy. Erica had a passion for learning. She also liked taking care of her nieces and nephews and this influenced her desire of becoming a nurse. On leaving school she gave bedside care to an elderly person and while providing this care she was convinced that nursing would be her career. In September 1955, Erica packed her bags and took off for the United Kingdom where she enrolled in the nursing program of one of the hospitals there. She successfully completed the professional examinations and later worked as a trained nurse..
Erica migrated to Canada in 1966, and she continued to work as a nurse until her retirement in 1993.
In addition to her passion for learning and for caring for others, Erica loved all sports, music, cooking and dancing. She was very trendy in choosing her attire and was often the leader in terms of fashion.
Erica will be missed by many, but will live on in all of our hearts.
