Dennis Renwick
August 5, 1946 - December 31, 2014
Mr. Dennis Christopher Renwick, a resident of Scarborough, Toronto, Canada passed away peacefully in the wee hours of the morning on December 31st, 2014. He was 68 years old.
Dennis was born in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies on August 5th, 1946. He was one of five children (the middle child) of Lillian (deceased) and Libert Renwick (deceased). His early education started at St. Mary's College and the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. Dennis migrated to
Canada in 1970 on a science scholarship to the University of Toronto where he continued his studies in botany, zoology and chemistry. He taught at the University of Toronto for a short while. He met and married his wife Ingrid and later started a family.
Dennis was a musical genius, teaching himself to play guitar and piano at an early age which was the start of a lifetime career in music. He was an integral member of several groups in the Caribbean community in Toronto, thus leaving a wonderful legacy as a true genius. Dennis was know as “Leo” in the Caribbean circles in Toronto owing of his dedication as a composer/performer of the Caribbean art form of calypso and traditional “parang”(the folk music of Trinidad and Tobago). He was a dedicated researcher, gathering/sharing information on the plight of the downtrodden and disenfranchised and
became known as a sort of naturopath and self-styled guru.
Dennis loved life and was especially happy when surrounded by family and friends. He was well loved by the Caribbean community where he will be fondly remembered for his kindness, compassion, passion and talent for sciences and music. Dennis spread joy throughout the community.
He was the beloved husband of Ingrid and loving father of Oswald (wife Kristen), Jill (husband Keith Martin) and Astra (Sanjiv Shah). Cherised grandfather of seven. Dear brother of Carlos Renwick, Lennox (deceased), Patricia Martung and Debra Seaton. Beloved uncle of Camille, Joel and Carlon Renwick, Christopher and Colin Cox, Charmion Barrette, Joanna and Johnaathan Renwick; Dionne, Marlon and Douglas Martung; Nicholas, Ryan and Erin Seaton. Brother-in-law of Jesma and Judey Renwick, Malcolm Martung and Stephen Seaton. Cousin of Aldwin and Anthony Pierre, Lucille Smith, Grace Richards and the Hernandez family.
