“A Life worth Living” came to an end.
Bernhard (Bernie known to his friends) passed away October 5/2015 after suffering a major stroke in the morning of September 30/2015 .
Bernie was born November 19/1932 in Cologne, Germany and after a very difficult youth, he immigrated to Canada to be with his brother in June 1958. He worked in his trade as a baker for some years.
In 1964 he started as a driver with a VW Dealership and in 1971 was offered the position of Parts Manager in the now called “Midtown Toronto VW/Audi” Dealership on Sheppard Ave. East. He worked there until his retirement in December 2000.
He was well respected by all.
Also in 1964 he met his future wife Barbara in the German Community of St. Patrick’s Church in Downtown Toronto. They married in 1965 and had 2 children, Monica and Thomas and have one granddaughter Jennifer. This summer they celebrated
50 years of happy married life. – Bernie also joined the German Male Choir Harfentoene based in St. Patrick’s (not a Church Choir) when he came to Canada and in the following years was their president for 20 years. Until his death he was still very much connected with ‘his’ Choir, also only as a semi-active members the last few years. – He was also a member of the Parish Council of the St. Patrick’s German Congregation for a few years.
In 2005 Bernie wrote his Memoirs – titled “A Life worth Living – and it truly was.

Bernie leaves his wife Barbara, daughter Monica, Son-in-law Wade and granddaughter Jennifer, son Thomas and wife Stephanie. We will all miss him very much.
He will be remembered at Mass on Sunday, Oct. 11/15 in St. Patrick’s.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society.
