In Loving Memory of
Anton “Gerry” Benedict

Sunrise: January 5, 1947

Sunset: October 29, 2014

It never crossed my mind that one day I’d have to write this for my own father but life has a funny way of throwing curve balls at you when you least expect it.

How do you pack the most beautiful, funny, wild, caring, compassionate, loving, fun, happy life of Gerry Benedict into this little space? It doesn’t do the man justice. Our dada is bigger than this little screen in so many ways.

Anton Gerard Benedict was born on January 05, 1947 in Jaffna, Sri Lanka to Rose Rajeswary Benedict and Anthony Emmanuel Benedict. He departed this earth peacefully surrounded by family on October 29, 2014. He leaves behind his beautiful wife and best friend of thirty-three years Eugene Benedict, daughter Anita, son Jerome, son-in law Imtee, daughter-in-law Kala, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

For dada the act of living was about being the best provider that he could be. He worked very hard and provided very well for all of us with everything and anything we ever wanted or needed. He had many hobbies, loved traveling, loved to have a good time and was an avid gardner. He was a very knowledgeable and a well-read man, and one of his favorite poem was Rudyard Kipling’s “If”

“… If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much:

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!”

Although struck by Cancer unexpectedly he fought really hard for as long as he could. We know you never gave up. We are very proud of you dada. Dada use to say “no minute that goes by ever comes back but if that minute is well lived and well spent there should be no regrets”. We will live by this and make you proud. I know you will be watching over us from heaven. You are now and forever will be appreciated and missed. I love you very much dada. Rest in peace.

A time of gathering will be held on Sunday, November 01, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Highland Funeral Home. Lunch to be provided.

Funeral Mass to be held at St. Barnabas Parish on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
